Surrogate Spotlight: Shani’s Story of Service, Family, and Giving Life

At Nodal, every surrogate story is different, but each one is rooted in compassion, courage, and a desire to help families grow. We’re honored to spotlight Shani, a 27-year-old Army veteran, mother of two, and proud gestational carrier whose journey beautifully blends service, family, and heart.

Meet Shani

“My name is Shani. I’m 27, a mother of two, a loving wife, and an Army veteran.”

Shani welcomed her first “belly bestie”, her surrogate baby, on Veterans Day, a moment that carries deep meaning for her. As someone who has dedicated her life to service, becoming a surrogate felt like a natural extension of who she is.

“I’m proud to have a day that means so much to service and impact forever connected to my surrogacy journey.”

Why She Chose Surrogacy

Shani knew early on that helping others build families was something she wanted to do.

“I told my husband before we even got married that I would love to be a surrogate someday or a foster parent, if I was able.”

Thankfully, her husband shared that same big-hearted vision. Together, they stepped into surrogacy knowing it would be a meaningful way to give hope to families who dream of having children.

“Giving families hope and love is incredible, but the moment that tops everything is giving them life to love.”

What Surrogacy Taught Her

One of the biggest surprises for Shani was realizing just how many people turn to surrogacy and how diverse those journeys are.

“It’s parents from all different walks of life. People who spend years thinking this could never be a reality for them, and then suddenly, it is.”

Through surrogacy, she’s heard countless stories, each one unique. Whether families work with an agency or independently, no two journeys are ever the same and that’s part of what makes being a surrogate so special.

“It’s exciting to be a part of something so personal and so different every time.”

Advice for Future Surrogates

Shani is passionate about supporting the next generation of surrogates, especially when it comes to mental and emotional health.

“My biggest advice is to find a support group. Ask questions. Make sure you always feel heard.”

She emphasizes something many first-time surrogates don’t always expect:

“Pregnancy is still pregnancy, whether it’s your baby or someone else’s.”

Your well-being matters. Mental health matters. And having people check in, even on tough days, can make all the difference.

“A healthy you means a healthy baby. That includes mentally.”

How Surrogacy Changed Her Life

Surrogacy brought meaningful financial benefits, like family vacations and home upgrades. For Shani, the most powerful impact went far beyond that.

“The best part was gaining a relationship with my intended parents.”

Watching their family grow, knowing she played a role in helping them reach that dream, is something she’ll always carry with her.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of their journey.”
