Women become surrogates to help create families while also reaching personal and financial goals, making surrogacy both meaningful and empowering for everyone involved.
When you Google “Why do women become surrogates?” you’ll get the same heart-warming list every single time:
“They want to help another family.”
“They feel called to give the gift of life.”
“They’re naturally nurturing and generous.”
And YES — all of that is true. Surrogates are some of the most giving, selfless humans on the planet. But if we’re going to be honest (and if you’ve met me, you know I prefer honesty with a side of humor)… there’s also a very real, very relatable side of surrogacy that no agency ever puts on their website.
So let’s talk about that side.
Sure, helping create a family is life-changing.
But also…
1. To finally get that boob job they’ve been manifesting for six years.
Call it self-care, call it a confidence boost — either way, the girls deserve it.
2. To skip their period for nine glorious months.
Do you know peace? Because this is peace.
3. To buy that new Toyota Sienna with 18 cup holders.
Eighteen. Cup. Holders.
That’s not a minivan; that’s a lifestyle.
4. To counter-balance their husbands buying car parts they “needed.”
You bought another part for the truck? Cool. I’ll grow a human.
5. To cover travel sports because kids’ activities are basically a second mortgage.
If you know, you know.
6. To justify buying the Starbucks Bear-ista mug off eBay after missing the in-store drop.
No judgment. Only solidarity.
7. To use the Expectant Mothers parking at the mall during holiday season.
Honestly the biggest perk. Zero regrets.
8. And for all the other completely normal, totally honest, sometimes hilarious reasons no one talks about.
Because women are allowed to be generous and practical.
Selfless and self-aware.
Giving and goal-oriented.
Surrogates are multidimensional humans.
They have dreams, families, financial goals, bodies, personalities, quirks, and humor.
They deserve to tell their story in a way that feels real — not sugarcoated.
Surrogacy is life-changing for the intended parents and for the surrogate.
It’s okay for both to benefit.
It’s okay for it to be meaningful and practical.
It’s okay for the reasons to be layered, honest, human — just like the people behind them.
Because they want to help another family…
and upgrade their life in the process.
Because they’re strong, compassionate, hilarious, motivated humans who aren’t afraid to say:
“Yeah, I did an incredible thing — and I also bought the minivan.”
And honestly?
That’s the real-real.
